In support of the Iranian revolution triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini, the Iranian Government was summed up succinctly by New Zealand member of parliament Golriz Ghahraman “We will call them terrorists”! About 1000 people passed through during the protest in an Auckland’s inner city park. She also stated that we will not dignify your terrorist regime by allowing an embassy here!s
On 16 September 2022, a 22-year-old Iranian woman named Mahsa Amini, died in a hospital in Tehran, Iran under suspicious circumstances. The Guidance Patrol, the religious morality police of Iran’s government, arrested Amini for not wearing the hijab in accordance with government standards. The Law Enforcement Command of Islamic Republic of Iran stated that before transferring her to the hospital, she had a heart attack at a police station, collapsed, and fell into a coma. However, eyewitnesses, including women who were detained with Amini, reportedly said she was severely beaten, and that she died as a result of police brutality, which was denied by Iranian authorities. These assertions, in addition to leaked medical scans, led independent observers to believe Amini had had a cerebral hemorrhage or stroke.
The veils are necessary according to Quran 34:31 “And tell believing women that they should lower their glances, guard their private parts, and not display their charms beyond what [it is acceptable] to reveal; they should let their headscarves fall to cover their necklines and not reveal their charms except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their womenfolk, their slaves, such men as attend them who have no sexual desire, or children who are not yet aware of women’s nakedness; they should not stamp their feet so as to draw attention to any hidden charms. Believers, all of you, turn to God so that you may prosper.”
Jacinda Ardern will never take any action on Iran, ironically because of the Saudi backed FIANZ makes millions each year from our halal meat trade. Many of us remember the upheaval to our social fabric when the Saudi’s first took over our national meat industry, with the blessing of Labour party backers, the trade unions.
