The Ranui double honour killing may be a shock to some. However honour killings are commonplace in Pakistan, and acceptable under various sharia laws (e.g.: that of Ahmed ibn Naqib al-Misri who wrote one of the classics). The two women he slaughtered were his own wife and daughter, who were due to move out of his house the next day. They had met for lunch with the Anglican vicar and his wife after the meeting of an ecumenical religious group in West Auckland. Immigrants to New Zealand are not required to change their religious beliefs to fit in with our culture. Sadly, this Ranui double honour killing won’t be the last islamic honour violence here in NZ.

A 55-year-old man has appeared in court in relation to the deaths of two women in West Auckland yesterday.
Ishrat Malik, a taxi driver, stood before Waitakere District Court today, clutching his head and supported by two police officers.
He was charged with the murder of two women, a mother and daughter who were found in their Ranui home yesterday morning.
Police said they were called to a residential address in Pooks Road shortly after ten o’clock yesterday morning.
Officers discovered the bodies of the two women at the address.
The man made the 111 emergency call and was at the scene when police arrived.
Post-mortem examinations will be conducted today, however early indications are that both women suffered stab wounds.
Police say the names of the women will be released once formal identification has taken place.
