The victim in the Avondale shooting incident is a 28-year-old Auckland man, police have confirmed

Further details about the man’s identity would not be released, however, police were asking for sightings of a black-coloured Honda Stream vehicle, registration HLL620.

“We believe this vehicle travelled from 19 Saintly Lane to nearby Rosebank Dr and we’d like to speak to anyone who may have seen it at about 4.30am,” Detective Inspector Lloyd Schmid said.

On Saturday, it was announced a man and a woman have been charged following the death of a man inside a West Auckland gated community.

“If you were at this address, and we haven’t spoken to you, or you saw people and vehicles coming and going from it during this time, we strongly encourage you to come and talk to us,” said Schmid.

“We would like to reassure the community that we aren’t seeking anyone else in relation to this death.”

A 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman have been jointly charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a pistol, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

They are due to appear in Auckland District Court on Monday.

A homicide investigation was launched Sunday morning after officers were called to a private road, Saintly Lane in Avondale, at 4.30am.

The man was discovered to have been shot and later died in hospital.

Residents were earlier told to stay inside their homes while police, including the armed offenders squad, cleared the house.

“The scene examination is continuing today in Saintly Lane and is expected to continue for some days yet,” Schmid said.

“We appreciate the ongoing patience and understanding of all of those who live in the area.”
