Those attending the Christchurch remembrance service for the victims of the March 15 terror attacks should expect a heavy police presence.
Police, some of who will be armed, will be attending a call to prayer on Friday, and the National Remembrance Service on Sunday, both held at Horncastle Arena in Addington.
Organisers described the event marking the one year anniversary of the attacks as a show of unity that pays tribute to the victims of the mosque attacks and those who came to their aid.
The names of the 51 people who lost their lives will be read out, with speeches from the imams of the Linwood and An-Nur (also known as Al Noor) mosques, a short film, several musical performances, and an address from Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Police commissioner Mike Bush, who will also be in attendance, said the anniversary was an important milestone for everyone.
